    3. Types of Employee Motivation



An organization must recognize that its employees are not identical clones; they are unique individuals with diverse characteristics. Consequently, successfully motivating your workforce requires a comprehensive understanding of various motivational types and approaches.

By gaining insight into these differences, you can effectively categorize your employees and apply tailored motivational strategies to enhance overall employee engagement and job satisfaction. It's crucial to acknowledge that some employees are more responsive to intrinsic motivation, while others may be motivated by extrinsic factors.

Employee motivation is intricately linked to the level of engagement an employee feels with the organization's objectives and their sense of empowerment. Motivation can be broadly classified into two types: (Bhat.A)

1.Intrinsic motivation (The motivation that comes from inside)

Individuals characterized as intrinsically motivated are those who find motivation from within. They are driven to excel in their work because it aligns with their fundamental values and a commitment to achieving high levels of performance.
The motivating factors often stem from a person's deeply held beliefs, encompassing traits such as kindness, enthusiasm, integrity, and a strong determination to succeed. Studies indicate that acknowledging and providing positive feedback to employees can enhance their intrinsic motivation. However, it is crucial to exercise moderation in these practices, as excessive praise or feedback runs the risk of demotivating individuals.

The motivating factors often stem from a person's deeply held beliefs, encompassing traits such as kindness, enthusiasm, integrity, and a strong determination to succeed. 2.Extrinsic motivation (Motivation derived from beyond oneself)

Motivation originating internally, as opposed to external sources, is termed intrinsic motivation. Extrinsic motivation becomes crucial for individuals who may lack inherent drive to fulfill their responsibilities.

Research indicates that people exhibit a greater willingness to acquire new skills when presented with external incentives. Motivation and constructive feedback can be delivered through rewards such as promotions, perks, and prizes.

However, it's essential to approach extrinsic benefits with care. As a manager, it's crucial to establish clear boundaries regarding the extent to which external motivators are employed to encourage your staff to achieve organizational goals. (Yıldırım.B, 2022)
